In a significant boost for UK grid resilience, VisNet from EA Technology has now surpassed 25,000 deployed VisNet Hub devices in the field, a milestone that signals real progress in tackling the challenges facing the country’s electricity distribution network.
These compact, low-voltage (LV) monitoring units are installed at substations and provide Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) with critical grid-edge intelligence. By continuously monitoring real-time load behaviour, voltage levels and fault signals across LV networks, the Hubs give operators the visibility they need to spot issues early, optimise performance and proactively manage network assets.
With over 5.5 million homes now supported by this technology, VisNet’s deployment is helping operators across approximately one-fifth of the UK’s LV network better understand and respond to evolving grid demands. The wealth of data delivered by the Hubs feeds directly into Detect Pro, VisNet’s intuitive user interface, where engineers can visualise performance trends, pre-empt capacity constraints and plan investments more effectively.
This milestone is especially timely as the UK’s distribution networks come under increasing strain from rapid electrification, with technologies like solar panels, heat pumps and electric vehicles placing new loads on ageing infrastructure. High-resolution monitoring is no longer a luxury, it’s essential to ensure reliability and support the transition to net zero.
What’s more, the VisNet Hub fleet has already received tens of thousands of over-the-air updates and was recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, underlining its industry impact.
