Supporting the EV rollout with smarter grid modelling and monitoring

With approximately 34 million cars on UK roads, the UK’s electricity grid is set to face major capacity challenges as thousands of electric vehicles hit the road.

The UK is targeting 300,000 charge points nationwide by 2030 and installing the infrastructure to support this change is going to be a top priority for grid operators.

VisNet’s CTO Dave A. Roberts believes that low-voltage network modelling and monitoring will help operators significantly with this roll out.  Partnering with Ian Cooper, Head of Innovation for VisNet Modelling, they state that these elements will play a key role in ensuring a successful transition to greater EV use, identifying the most suitable locations for charge points, and ultimately, reducing strain on the national grid.
