The cornerstone of our full-stack LV Network ecosystem

The Hub is the foundation of VisNet’s low voltage (LV) monitoring ecosystem.  Installed in ground-mounted substations it is designed to give network operators immediate, scalable visibility of their LV networks to support operations, planning and asset management with data-driven decision making.

At its core, the VisNet Hub delivers robust, high-resolution monitoring straight out of the box. It captures essential electrical parameters including RMS voltage and current (per phase, including neutral), active, reactive and apparent power, total energy, total harmonic distortion (THD), as well as maximum and minimum voltage values over the displayed reporting period. With time series data typically recorded at 10 or 30-minute intervals, the Hub provides a reliable baseline of network performance.

The Hub’s functionality enables operators to move from reactive, assumption-based planning to evidence-led decision making. With clear visibility of voltage profiles, load behaviour, and phase imbalance. Amongst others, engineers can quickly identify emerging issues such as voltage violations, thermal constraints, or poor power quality, often before they impact customers.

Harnessing the power of our Low Voltage Common Application Platform (LV-CAP®) operating system, the Hub transforms grid-edge data into actionable insights. This is achieved through an expanding suite of applications, all seamlessly shown via our intuitive VisNet Detect Pro interface.

These grid-edge insights allow Network Operators to deal with immediate operational issues such as faults and pre-faults and their location, it also allows the user to anticipate future planning requirements and provides key asset health information for reinforcement or replacement strategies.

The Hub has an array of input/output connectivity options, whether for voltage and current sensors or third-party interfaces, thus providing a capability and flexibility that is rarely seen in this type of monitoring system.

In addition, it supports the ALVIN Reclose2 auto recloser as a plug-and-play device to further enhance your network monitoring and visibility capabilities.

This ground-breaking LV monitoring device was awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise 2024 in the Innovation category.

Whether deployed as a standalone monitoring solution or as the backbone of a fully integrated smart network, the VisNet Hub provides the visibility, flexibility, and intelligence required to operate modern LV networks with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Overview & Core Capabilities

Situated in ground-mounted substations, the VisNet Hub is an intelligent low voltage (LV) network monitoring device designed for owners and operators of electrical networks. Working with a range of VisNet Apps, it provides real-time data, analytics, and edge computing capabilities to improve grid visibility and enable smarter network management. These applications support insights into areas such as network capacity, quality of supply, and reliability.

VisNet Apps & Grid-Edge Intelligence

VisNet Apps are software modules that typically run on the VisNet Hub and VisNet View. They enable specific monitoring, analytics or grid management functions, such as fault and pre-fault detection, constraint management, or power quality analysis, without needing new physical equipment.

Find out more about the VisNet Apps

Low voltage networks are experiencing increasing demand from EV chargers, heat pumps, solar PV, and battery storage. LV monitoring and the additional grid-edge intelligence provided by the VisNet Apps supplies the real-time data required to manage this demand safely, avoid reinforcement where possible, and enable net zero ambitions.

A key part of this capability is the edge computing within the VisNet Hub. The device analyses high-speed electrical measurements locally to detect rapid changes in network behaviors such as emerging faults, pre-fault conditions or power quality disturbances that require fast sampling and processing. By performing this analysis at the edge, the system can identify which events and insights are most important and only transmit the relevant data to the cloud. This reduces unnecessary data traffic while ensuring that critical network events are captured and acted upon quickly.

For water utilities and industrial operators, this same visibility and intelligence strengthens operational resilience. By continuously monitoring power quality, loading, faults and pre-fault conditions, the VisNet Hub helps protect critical infrastructure, reduce unplanned downtime, safeguard process continuity, and ensure reliable operation of essential assets such as pumps, motors and treatment facilities.

Yes. The Hub supports edge computing, allowing certain analytics and applications to run locally, reducing latency and bandwidth usage.

LV Network Visibility & Performance

By capturing granular data at substation and feeder level, the VisNet Hub provides enhanced visibility of network constraints, voltage issues, loading, and real-time faults and pre-faults. This enables data-driven planning and operational decision-making.

The Hub captures high-resolution electrical measurements from the low voltage network, including voltage and current per phase, as well as power quality indicators such as harmonics and voltage imbalance. It can also monitor external parameters such as temperature where sensors are connected.

These measurements provide the foundation for VisNet analytics applications, which derive insights such as network loading, emerging faults, asset health indicators and other operational metrics.

Yes. The Hub supports real-time data transmission and edge processing to enable faster operational decisions.

Yes. The device continuously monitors voltage levels and identifies compliance risks, enabling proactive intervention before customer complaints occur.

Actionable insights from the VisNet Hub are accessed through Detect Pro, EA Technology’s secure, web-based user interface.

Detect Pro converts raw LV network data into clear, prioritised alerts and dashboards, highlighting issues such as emerging faults, voltage non-compliance, overload risks and power quality events. Users can drill down to substation and feeder level, review trends, and export reports to support operational and planning decisions.

The interface is designed to make grid-edge intelligence simple, accessible and actionable for DNOs, water utilities and industrial operators.

Critical alerts can also be delivered directly to users via email or messaging notifications, ensuring that important network events are brought to operators’ attention quickly. Where required, event data and alarms can also be integrated into external systems, allowing VisNet intelligence to feed directly into existing asset management and network operation workflows.

Capacity, Net Zero & Flexibility

By providing accurate visibility of transformer and feeder capacity, the VisNet Hub enables owners and operators of electrical networks across the globe to assess headroom more confidently and accelerate low carbon technology connections without unnecessary reinforcement.

By combining the VisNet Hub with the VisNet Capacity Apps, you can unlock up to an additional 22% capacity on your network.

Yes. With improved visibility of actual network loading and constraints, operators can defer or avoid capital reinforcement by making better use of existing assets.

Yes. By providing accurate constraint and headroom data, the Hub supports flexibility planning and constraint management strategies.

Integration, Connectivity & IoT

Yes. The VisNet Hub acts as an Industrial IoT (IIoT) gateway, connecting sensors, monitors and external devices. It supports multiple inputs and communication protocols, allowing utilities to integrate additional monitoring applications and third-party technologies.

Yes. The Hub supports integration with DNO back-office systems, data platforms, and operational tools via APIs and secure data export mechanisms.

The VisNet architecture is designed for fleet-scale deployment across thousands of substations, with centralised device management and analytics capability.

Installation, Support & Lifecycle

The VisNet Hub is installed in ground-mounted substations on the low voltage network. It can also be used in water pumping stations and selected areas in manufacturing sites, hospitals, airports, ports, and the rail network, thus supporting resilient networks across the globe.

Yes. Installations can be carried out by your own team of installers, those from EA Technology, or EA Technology-approved third parties.

EA Technology provides commissioning support, ongoing technical assistance, firmware updates, and system optimisation guidance.

Security, Compliance & Manufacturing

Yes. Cybersecurity is embedded in the device architecture, including encrypted communications, secure authentication, and controlled remote access aligned with utility standards.

The device is designed to meet relevant utility and industrial standards. Detailed compliance documentation can be provided upon request.

The VisNet Hub is manufactured through a secure supply chain, largely based in the UK, ensuring quality assurance and resilience.
